Artist Statement

I trained at Cambridge College of Art and Technology, Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Canberra School of Art and Brougham School of Art and Photography in Geelong.  I paint in watercolour, gouache, acrylic and oils, in my studio in the Scottish Borders.  My work is very much informed by drawing and by the visual diaries I have kept for years.

My paintings fall into two main categories: landscapes and narrative works.  Both subjects allow me to combine figurative elements with an abstract dimension.

In my landscape painting, my aim is to express ancient, almost imperceptible man-made forms in the earth, and the subtlety of shifting colour and light.

The narrative paintings explore life phases, personal relationships and specific incidents, either experienced by me or by those close to me.

Paintings for sale include recent work and archive work from previous exhibitions and series.
